| As a few of you know, I'm new. And I ordered a PSA kit. The more I read about PSA the more my heart sinks a bit lol I needs a lower, which was expected. But I've read PSA lowers aren't great in quality. The kit came with "classic lower build kit" is that good? If not what are some lowers, stripped with another build kit or complete it doesn't matter, that would be around 300 or cheaper. Thanks guys. I need a signature "Student budgets suck!" lol |

You don't need to spend more than about $50-70 on a stripped lower. |

I need a signature "Student budgets suck!" lol Who says that their lowers aren't good quality. I've had several of their stripped lowers and they are just as nice in quality as my Spikes, Noveske, and Nodak lowers. They are all made to the exact same standards. PSA gets a bad rap because they keep selling that PTAC shit. Their premium stuff is as good as Colt or Spikes, no I'm not putting down Colt or Spikes so please don't get defensive. |
| Honestly, with stock triggers it's a gamble if it will be smooth or not with many brands. I've had a Spikes that was HORRIBLE, and one from a PSA kit that was great; however, I think it could of just as easily been the reverse. Are you thinking about buying a stripped lower or one already put together? If your buying a stripped lower I would buy a LPK without the trigger and buy an ALG trigger for about $35 and maybe a yellow spring kit from JP. |

For the most part, a lower is a lower. Agreed. An in-spec 7075-T6 A2 lower is an in-spec 7075-T6 A2 lower. Pick one, if it's in spec, you're good. People seem to think if they buy lets say a BCM lower that its made by BCM, NOPE. There are only so many companies that make the forgings, and "manufacturers" just etch their names in the side and send em off for anodizing. |
|
I personally would not worry about the lower you purchased, PSA stripped lowers are great!! I've had better luck with other lpk's from other companies, but psa kits are not bad!! A thing I would pay attention to is the buffer tube on the non-premium kits is 6061 which isn't a big deal but should be mentioned!
Edit: I should also mention that the beauty of the AR platform is that parts are easy to change and super cheap right now!! |

6061 meaning?....
And I guess I can buy a stripped lower, put trigger in, if I hate it, do what was mentioned earlier and get a different trigger and spring set. Officially 18 as of 20 mins ago so I'll start on that in the morning lol. As for this, thanks again guys ill be a pita again tomorrow night xD night guys Could always have a BFL engraved on the lower lol could be neat. Or copyright infringement who knows lol |

My favorite to this day is still, 'stainless steel, I wouldn't trust my life to a stainless barrel on a fighting rifle'.....lol |

Lower is a lower mostly just different roll marks and different shades of black. You are fine. This. I've almost got 10 PSA lowers right now, 2 of which are registered as SBRs on a Form 1. Have a few friends with some as well. Haven't seen an issue with any of them. On top of that, PSA has, at least IMO, the best rollmark of all the "cheap" forged 7075 lowers out there. ETA: I feel like we've ran across this before and I don't recall the answer, but isn't there a legal issue with an FFL transferring a stripped lower to anybody under the age of 21? (Considering OP stated he just turned 18.) |

6061 meaning?.... vs stronger, more expensive 7075 aluminum base material. The receiver extension (buffer tube) is one of the weak design points in the AR design. Bend the receiver extension in a drop or fall and the rifle may be SOL (no cyclic action). Some people prefer the stronger 7075 because of this but for a recreational rifle you should be okay with 6061. Quoted:

Install the trigger (aka the Fire Control Group) that comes with your kit. Go shoot it. Learn with a standard mil-spec trigger. If you want to spend the money, yes, there are upgrades that run $45 to $300, but frankly the trigger is the least of your worries right now. |

I never understood why people state that is what is needed when building an AR. A better trigger is a plus, not a necessity. |

The only reason I asked is because its the only thing I'm not familiar with. I know what I want everywhere except there, which is why I came here and asked. You're exactly right, it's not a necessity its a plus, a plus I was asking about because I'm building the lower up from a stripped lower so I figured I might as well ask and perhaps put a different one in there the first time |

If not, I was under the impression a stripped lower cannot be transferred to anyone under the age of 21 through an FFL. Somebody more knowledgeable on this aspect will probably be along shortly, but something you should consider if you don't already have it. |

Op, PSA classic build kits are fine. I've used about 5 if them over the years. I've added JP springs in all of them ($10) and stoned the surfaces on them as well (free). They all have a gritty feel but generally not that bad of a pull. It is a stock trigger so don't expect too much out of it. A little bit of work will make a world of difference. I also changed stocks from the classic kit but, IIRC, you bought a CTR stock to replace it. That's good.
You haven't answered the question asked (I responded in your first thread BTW), "Did you solve your lower procurement issue?" Just wondering. |

I bought a cheap PSA blemished lower and PTAC lower kit with Ergo grip and BLACKHAWK! buttstock. I got lucky on my trigger. It's actually pretty good. I spent my money on a BCM upper because it came with a BCG and Mod0 compensator.
The only negatives about the lower is the slight unevenness of the finish. I have had 0 problems with slop between upper and lower and absolutely no functional issues. I strongly recommend people look to PSA when looking to buy a stripped lower. |

Yeah we came to the conclusion that my dad will buy the stripped lower and have the ffl put it in his name,I build it as a rifle then when its a complete rifle, it gets put into my name. Easiest way to do it we thought. Sorry I didn't respond. Is that a state law in Montana Missouri? I'm just wondering if you need to go through all that paperwork once it is done. Even here in Colorado (don't get me started Good luck with your build and keep us posted. You should order two lowers because you'll either want another or your dad will...and so it starts. |

There are some companies who "spec" their parts to a manufacturer and are very careful about what they accept and have enough buyer clout to send
stuff back that is out of spec.... I can recommend lowers from Colt,BCM and stripped lowers from MEGA.....My personal pet rifle is a BCM upper with a LMT Defender lower with LMT internals (well LMT,V7 & Geissele anyway |
| I'm finishing up a build with an LRB stripped lower. PSA LPK and buffer tube fit fine, all the holes are nice and tight, no wiggle. Out of all the cheap lowers, I like this subdued roll mark the best. |

Quoted: Planning next build already..this damn site >.> Anyway, Thisll sound stupid but has anyone bought a Black Forge Lower? i like their roll mark lol i saw on their site they were bought out, i didn't know if they were gtg or stay away?Don't worry about them being sold. The new owners will honor any warranty issue you may have. http://www.blackforgeweapons.com/AR_Lower_Blem_p/lower-bf-blem.htm get 2 of these as you will never see them on the market again. I have 2 lowers from another company, that's not in business anymore and its pretty cool that I never see them on anyone else's set-ups. Everyone used to say they had the ugliest roll mark, but I loved it. |
