Daniel Defense. Why? No real reason other than the 4 that I have have been perfect, showing no signs of...anything, and my Mucho Overgassed MK18 hasn't sheared the lug on that bolt yet. Get the one that is the cheapest, and most readily available to you. You are WAY overthinking this, since you have picked 4 that are all good to go. |

i lied about BCM lol. i found a DD BCG at primary arms for 180 and id rather get that. it doesnt mention that its HPT tho, which i find odd, do you know anything about that?\

I will go pull one apart for you. Honestly though, there isn't a member here that would say anything negative about them, other than the price' I will go drop a couple out of a couple of my rifles and see if they are HPT stamped. I have one that is very low round count. |

I have one that is very low round count. i contacted primary arms about it and if the MIL can use it then it must be damn reliable. sometimes i just get all caught up in this stuff. like wanting to add all this stuff to my AR i always have to remind myself to KISS (Keep it simple stupid). anways thank you very much i really do appreciate it |
| Just stick with a quality name brand. My "budget" S&W sport is near 10k rounds, all original BCG, still going strong 100% and cycles everything flawlessly. I have a AIM surplus NiB bcg in an AR pistol, works flawlessly with all ammo, but only 500 rounds on it. Otherwise, I run Toolcraft BCGs (1B1B6 carrier) in all my other ARs, who are a direct manufacturer for mil contracts and other companies. |

In alphabetical order:
BCM Colt LMT All of theses are MPI and HP proofed. I use all three mfg's and have had zero issues. Those are the only bolts I will buy, period. To be honest, my brother's Bushmaster bolt (this is the original Bushmaster. Made in Windham, ME...circa the mid 1990's) is still going strong at over 15 K rounds on it. This is shooting the hotter 5.56 spec ammo, not .223 stuff. |
| I'm not sure how much you plan on shooting your rifle so all of your choices you listed are very good. However, in your extreme scenario, it would be dumb to only have 1 bolt. If your making your rifle SHTF worthy it would be smart to have a pistol grip or a vfg with storage so you can carry an extra bolt. Shit happens |

Serious question as I'm looking at BCGs right now. How much difference is the civilian user going to see between say a PSA BCG in the $50-$70, vs the BCM higher end $190 BCG? This person would be shooting maybe 100-500 rds a month, with maybe 1 training class a year adding in an extra 1,000 rds in a 2 day period running drills. That would be probably above average usage on the civilian side is my guess, so maybe 100 rds a month?
ETA: I'm just curious on a practical scale, not shooting suppression fire full auto or burst, or even rapid semi-auto in harsh conditions, is it worth it to have the higher end BCG? Or is it just as well as a civilian to fight with a lower end BCG? |

$89 http://www.bravocompanyusa.com/BCM-Bolt-Carrier-Group-MPI-Auto-M16-p/bcm-bolt-carrier-group-auto-mp.htm $169. Both have the exact same specs. Do these companies actually make their own stuff or just have their logo put on their stuff?? BCM upper receiver groups on their website have the same forge mark as the Aero Precision upper I ordered direct from Aero. The CHF FN barrel I got from PSA has the roll mark in the same place as a Daniel defense hammer forged barrel. |

People here love to hate on Colt, but with a Colt bolt group, I know it's made correctly, with the correct materials to meet TDP. Individual MPI testing instead of batch testing too. I'm sure other manufacturers make fine products that may meet or exceed TDP specs, but I know what I'm getting with a Colt bolt group. I have plenty of non Colt parts, and most work ok. When a generic or aftermarket part doesn't work the way it should, I'll replace it with a Colt part and invariably it works. Some things ill cheap out on, but the bolt group is as critical a component as there is and spending an extra $50-$80 to get a Colt bolt group is my personal insurance policy. YMMV. |

For a standard bolt group, you are on the right track with BCM, Colt, LMT (in no particular order). My "number one" go to bolt is the LMT enhanced bolt. Especially for shorter barrels. I mentioned bolt instead of bolt group because the carriers do not receive a lot of stress and "most" of them (as long as they are staked properly) will work just fine. The bolt is where the stress is applied. Do your research on all of the coated bolts. Make sure the manufacturer is accounting for the thickness of the coating. If you stay with BCM, LMT or Colt, you will be fine. Good luck! |
