I've been out of loop for a while. Can someone explain the mechanics/benefits of a Keymod rail vs. an old school picatiny?

It allows you to place a rail only where you want it / need it instead of having a full quad rail. It also allows you to attach stuff directly to the hand guard with out a rail. M lock is the other style with the same principle. |
