Who here has a beard or mustache and has a collapsable stock that DOESN'T rip their facial hair off? Any recommendations? I've resorted to putting a strip of tape around it but that totally defeats the purpose of a collapsable stock.

I'll throw the Tactical Intent TI7 in to that mix.  I have really like mine.

Vltor imod... and I think it has pulled on my beard once.  I have had a beard for a few years and never really had an issue.  Is the space between the buffer tube ans the stock the part that is trying to eat your face?  My Vltor grabbed me with the gap between the stock and the battery compartments.

If it becomes a reoccurring problem, you might be doing it wrong.

It's the gap between the receiver extension and buttstock. All I have now are a Colt 4-position and a few 6-position collapsables and an original aluminum 2-position Colt collapsable on my SP-1 Carbine.

I'll try some of the recommendations given here. Thanks.

This. Completely different receiver extension method.

If your beard is big enough for this issue to happen, then it's big enough to handle the extra weight of the UBR.

I might be cheaper (and more effective) to modify the way you mount the carbine to your face (which might be tough I know).
I have done a bit of shooting with a M4 and beard and never noticed a problem, or ever heard about it from others. Try moving your head down to the stock before you get the rifle to your shoulder. This way you won't jam facial hair into the stock tube gap.

If the stock is pulling out tuffs of facial hair it might be just a sloppy fit tube to stock fit. Does your stock rattle on the tube?

If there is that much rattle you might have to replace both stock and receiver extension to get correct fit.

I've yet to meet a sliding carbine stock that mounts and slides on a standard carbine receiver extension that doesn't grab facial hair occasionally.

My CTR works fine. No hair pulled out.

Due to the location the hair is being pulled from your three options are:

UBR

Ace SOCOM

Ergo F93

I would probably go for the F93.

Alternatively you could switch to a fixed stock like the Magpul Fixed Carbine Stock.

The VLTOR A1 will fit carbine tubes, but some people have had issues with VLTOR stocks pulling beard hair.

at least it doesn't hurt as bad as my bow string.

My CTR pulls beard hair often, when fully extended.

I have a beard year round, and I've only used two stocks that don't pull hair; the A2 and a Magpul MOE rifle stock.

There might be some carbine stocks that aren't as bad, however I don't see how that's possible since my hair is being pulled when it gets in between the front lip of the stock body and the receiver extension tube. It's just something you deal with.

These three use different collapsing methods and should save beard hair:

UBR

Ace SOCOM

Ergo F93 (similar to the no longer produce M93)

I had an MOE & almost every time I would shoulder it I would have a few hairs remain in between the stock & tube...

This conversation is something I have had a problem with myself.

I've been training on an AR seriously either taking classes on my own or at work for over 20 years. There's no way I'm going to change the way I do things due to facial hair!

Yes, the fit is a little sloppy on my Colt 4-position stock. Comfort wise, I prefer an Ace ARFX stock but I don't want something that doesn't collapse on my SBRs. Looking at all the suggestions I think I'm going to try the Ace M4 stock as soon as my toy fund builds up a little.

Another detail that might make a difference in stock recommendations is that I shoot with the stock fully extended. I'm tall and anything shorter feels like a toy in my hands.

It's not a fad for me. I don't do anything because someone else is doing it. I've had a beard for the past 24 years other than when work prohibited it. I'll probably keep the beard either until Spring or if I have a position again where I may have to don a gas mask, whichever comes first.

24 years!?

You don't count as part of the fad then. I'm talking about the more recent beard upstart guys that seem to have come out of nowhere over the last 3 years. They say they do it because the girls like it, which makes me wonder what is wrong with those girls.

I have had mine for about 20yrs, off & on, mostly on. I sport a goatee... So I shave also. Mainly because I would look like a werewolf that got into a fight with an electric trimmer if I let it all grow out.
