i'm currently looking around to see whats out there now in regards to rail covers. looking for something good & solid that doesn't break the bank. right now, i'm between the magpul XTM  & the troy battle rail covers. any thoughts, suggestions & personal experiences welcomed. thanks!

I like the XTM's, but then I use mostly ladder rail covers on my railed hand guards.
I like the ones from Surefire.

Cheap ladder rail covers off Amazon or eBay.

Ladder here too. The covers make it to darn thick. Why put the rails on in the first place if you are going to cover them up?

LaRue index clips.

Either index clips or the rubber ladders. I've used both. Both work well.

I've tried XTM but they are too bulky. Right now I'm using the accessory panels on my CMR that Centurion Arms sells, and I love them.

Textured XTM (or even clones) are nice if you hold the piece by the rail...good gripping and comfort.

I used to run enhanced XTM but have gone strictly to ladders for the lower profile.

thanks for the comments/recommendations. i noticed a couple stated some covers give a "bulky" feel. trying to avoid this, but also cant wear gloves to shoot. i dont have a great deal of feeling in my hands, enough to get by but putting on gloves makes it feel like i'm wearing oven mitts! this is going on a pistol upper, so no front grip. may start with some ladders & experiment a little from there if i want more.

I have the Troy covers and they don't fit very well, some of them needed a mallet to get on and an act of God to get off but others are loose enough that they rattle. I ended up getting the Magpul ladders and they work great

Tango Down Scar panels are the best imo.

This.  There's no difference between them and the more expensive "name brands" who are likely getting them from the same source.

Why pay $5 per rail cover when the same set of 4 is $5?

Duct tape.

You can always look in the EE for deals.

The Surefire are more pliable and easier to install.

They really are.  It sucks they cost that much more, but I like them.  One of those "neva gonna happen" scenarios last winter, where I wanted to move a hand stop at the range of a 30 degree day.  Had one rifle with Surefire, and one with some cheapies I got from a buddy...Surefires are cool in the cool.

Anyway, those and Larue clips for me.  I have a drawer FULL of XTMs and Tango Down covers.  They make the handguard way too fat, IMO.  Now that I purchased some handguards that are slimmer, I dont care for the way fat ones are created by these types of covers.  Great for heat, though!

Yep, the airsoft knockoffs are less than half the price and are identical to the Larue clips. One set is plenty for 2 rifles

Larue Index Clips are all I use except for my clone builds which use KAC

Either ladder covers,(Cheap ones are better. Expensive ones are easier to get along with, but if you're only putting them on once...) or if you've got a RAS and hulk hands, the KAC covers.

They don't rattle like the Troy/TD ones, which is nice. Unfortunately, you need to have a foregrip or truckasaurous hands the size of Lana's, otherwise they feel like grabbing onto a damned PVC pipe.
