| i'm currently looking around to see whats out there now in regards to rail covers. looking for something good & solid that doesn't break the bank. right now, i'm between the magpul XTM & the troy battle rail covers. any thoughts, suggestions & personal experiences welcomed. thanks! |
| thanks for the comments/recommendations. i noticed a couple stated some covers give a "bulky" feel. trying to avoid this, but also cant wear gloves to shoot. i dont have a great deal of feeling in my hands, enough to get by but putting on gloves makes it feel like i'm wearing oven mitts! this is going on a pistol upper, so no front grip. may start with some ladders & experiment a little from there if i want more. |

This. There's no difference between them and the more expensive "name brands" who are likely getting them from the same source. Why pay $5 per rail cover when the same set of 4 is $5? Quoted:

Cheap ladder rail covers off Amazon or eBay. This. There's no difference between them and the more expensive "name brands" who are likely getting them from the same source. Why pay $5 per rail cover when the same set of 4 is $5? The Surefire are more pliable and easier to install. |

One of those "neva gonna happen" scenarios last winter, where I wanted to move a hand stop at the range of a 30 degree day. Had one rifle with Surefire, and one with some cheapies I got from a buddy...Surefires are cool in the cool. Anyway, those and Larue clips for me. I have a drawer FULL of XTMs and Tango Down covers. They make the handguard way too fat, IMO. Now that I purchased some handguards that are slimmer, I dont care for the way fat ones are created by these types of covers. Great for heat, though! |

Either ladder covers,(Cheap ones are better. Expensive ones are easier to get along with, but if you're only putting them on once...) or if you've got a RAS and hulk hands, the KAC covers.
They don't rattle like the Troy/TD ones, which is nice. Unfortunately, you need to have a foregrip or truckasaurous hands the size of Lana's, otherwise they feel like grabbing onto a damned PVC pipe. |
