Need to do some maintenance that requires more torque than holding the receiver by hand.  Who makes the best upper / lower vice blocks?

For the price, these are hard to beat and they do the job, but remember, the vise is the other half of the equation:

I have gotten good service from the set that  Brownells makes.  Also agree that a very securely mounted  HD bench vice really helps.

What are those?

My current issue is a DDM4 lower - the handgrip screw is a flathead w/Loctite instead of a standard hex+star washer.

I'm guessing you meant a lower reciever vise block then? I think they're all pretty similar. I just use an old aluminum GI mag that didn't ever feed reliably as my lower vise block. I just sharpie marked "vise block" on it and use it whenever I need it. It works pretty good. Hope that helps.

Well, I would be interested in both (and mentioned both in the OP) - I just need the lower block sooner rather than later.

Good cheap idea on the mag, except all mine are pmags.

Yeah I just used a mag once in a pinch and stuck with it because it did the job. My upper vise block is the wheeler brand one made out of polymer that hinges on the top. Works good so far- just have to remove optics before use. I think I got it at Academy for $20-$30.

ETA: I think I remember seeing a Wheeler brand package deal at Academy that came with the upper and lower vise blocks.

Thanks - I have to go to Academy to return something, I'll see what they have when I'm there.
