Wondering if someone familiar with the Rainier Evolution Rail might chime in.

I noticed from the various pic threads here that the Rainier/Samson Evolution Rail used to have screw-holes on the side where it appears you could attach pieces of rail, sling mounts, etc.  It looks like Rainier changed the design and now I don't see that they sell the screw-hole version any longer, and now its keymod.

I was wondering if anyone knew if there were any other differences between the old version and the new?

The reason I ask is that I'm working on a build for my wife and she really likes the Rainier Evolution Rail, but she likes the look of the old screw-hole version better.  I found a place I could get the old version online but I was afraid that maybe Rainier made other non-so-obvious design changes that improved it further.  If the new one was better in many ways, she'd probably prefer the new keymod one.

Also, I've never had a rail with those screw holes before.  I know that I've seen similar rails with screw holes from MI and KAC...are the pieces of rail and rail covers that fit screw-hole style rails universal?  Could she get KAC rail covers or MI rail covers and they'd fit the screw holes?  Are there plenty of options out there for her to choose rail covers or pieces of rail or what not if she wants?  Or are they all proprietary and have to made by Rainier, and thus, if she gets the old one she might not be able to find attachments any longer.

Thanks!

Rainier doesn't make the rail. Samson Mfg does. You can see the Evolution series here.. Therefore they make all the accessories for attaching things. It may be made slightly different for Rainier than their normal design, I know my key mod is.

I'd recommend the key mod. Attaching add ons is much lower profile than having to add rail sections and then attach whatever to it. And you aren't limited to only things made by Samson.

I replied to your thread in the Rainier dealer section. Some info that might help. Feel free to PM me if it helps!
