I recently bought a PSA bolt assy, and wasn't paying enough attention to the specs, and turns out the extractor is made of 8620, unlike many other manufacturers that use tool steel. I have searched both Arf and M4carbine.net and havent found much at all that compares 8620 to the various tool steels in use. Anyone know much about this that can educate me?

I've seen 4130 and S7 used.  Obviously S7 is a stronger material.  It would be interesting to hear more information on what material is best for extractors.  A lot of extractors are cast, so I guess which material is the best cast material, and which is the best bar stock material would be different sides to the same answer.

Extractors seem to be little discussed in general, and especially composition, but when palmetto has both tool steel and 8620 extractors on their bolts, and BCM uses some tool steel, it makes me wonder...

This M16A1 extractor blueprint lists: steel, AISI 4140 or AISI 4340, gun quality, annealed, cold drawn and stress relieved BHN 187/229.

It looks like 4340 is 25% stronger than 4130 in the heat treated condition.
