I'd recommend an AR-15 lower for your first AR build.  Unless you want to go super light or save $10 on a $60 part, I'd go aluminum.  If you don't want a S/N, you can mill your own out @ home from an 80%.

I am also interested in a left side charging AR upper.  I have done a few searches but not really found anything that suited me or my wallet.

For lowers just take your pick.  Either cheap or expensive.

No dustcover/FA, if those things are important to you.

Think it's the same thing as the GIBBZ upper.

Then there's ASA (American Spirit Arms)

I am curious about the bolt open process with the side charger on the ASA.  I watched a video on the ASA site but they don't show that function.  Anyone running this config that has a comment?  It appears a Magpul BAD lever (or similar) may be useful there.

Can you hold down the BHO with your left hand while charging?

The only upper that fit everything I wanted in a side charger, was the JP ..... but it's $850 for the upper/bolt/bolt carrier

Still bought it....
