Looks homebuilt to me.

Also looks like it may explode in a cartoonish fashion in fairly short order.

Rubbish attempt at a making an extended low profile A2 cage.

Voodoo makes the Manimal which accomplishes the same in much finer fashion.

I'm wondering about the gas holes along the base...

I spotted those, and it appears they are gassing.  Is it yours?  If so, does it work?

Definitely an ugly fucker, curious if it is effective as a comp with those holes.

I think I figured it out by comparing photos...

The rifle was issued to me today. It's a mid S&W Magpul. It looks like the hider is from S&W and they have a patent on it. Only sighted in and shot a qualification to carry it. I plan on taking it to the range and working with it next week.

Overall, it seems on a par with my old Colt duty carbine.

I ordered a Magpul single point plate and sling this evening and the armorer will switch it out for me when it arrives. I'm going to move the vertical grip back closer to the mag. The Aimpoint PRO works well and its mount should absorb a lot of abuse.

Give it a few scrapes and dents and it will match my Colt that I carried for 15 years.

Those flash hiders have been coming on S&W carbines, both 5.56 and 308. Most of the people I know end up replacing them with something else as some of them ping

I would agree the machining is a bit rough on the hider. I assumed it was other than S&W made. Not sure about pinging as I shot it yesterday on the firing line with a group of guys and we were all firing together.

Looking forward to the single point sling. For many years I have used a Giles 3 point and figured this would be the time to make the change.

I will say that the old Colt has been 100% reliable over the years. I can't imagine any other factory made rifle as being that totally reliable.  The Colt was rained on, lived in a car with 140 degree temps, survived haboobs galore, 15 monsoons, being dropped in the dirt and sand dozens of times.

The final machine works looks like crap.. id try like a dremel and different small size buffing bits to polish the "rough" look out of it lol
