Out of curiousity, since this same silliness comes up in the plastic receiver threads...

I weighed a stripped PSA safe/fire lower receiver.   8.5 oz  This has been for sale recently for $49.99 (+$7.00 s/h).

According to their website, the MAG Tactical lower receiver is 5.875 oz.  This is $179.95 (s/h unknown).

Yes, the MAG has a built in trigger guard, so add about another .1 oz to the PSA.

Spend $130 to save 2.725 oz ???

Any real weight savings is simply not in the receiver.

Unfortunately,  light is NOT cheap.

I understand the OP wants a metal lower, but if you have a chance take a look at a Cav15mkII lower.  Weight is saved by integrating the stock, grip and buffer extension into the lower.

it's just a game man. some people like to play the most expensive AR game, some the most rare or simplest or lightest. whatever floats your boat. it's your money. respect.

My buddies mag tactical is noticeably lighter than my billet paper weight and random forged lowers. They look good too. That's your best bet. I'd rule polymer out

When you asked what's wrong with them I was gonna joke "the price" but $179 is decent value for an ultra LW magnesium lower coated in the color of your choice.  Standard stripped lower retail is still around $125 for most, but they are always on sale for less.  People regularly pay more than that for a regular stripped lower that just has a Noveske cross stamped in it.

If I was going for an ultra LW build, I could see getting one of these, certainly not a polymer one (Cav Arms would be the exception).

Edit: PSA has one in stock for $120!  http://palmettostatearmory.com/index.php/mag-tactical-systems-ar-15-ultralight-stripped-lower-receiver-mg-g4-fde-flat-dark-earth.html
