Hello,
I'm new to the site and I had a question regarding changing my lower extension tube/buffer reciever. I have a Smith and Wesson M&P15. My current (stock) Buffer tube is approx 10 inches long. I want to shorten this. If I put on a shorter tube do I need to change out the buffer and buffer spring?

Thanks

If it has the collapsible carbine stock on it already, that's as short as it will go technically.

He lives in MA.  He would have to have it pinned into the position he wants.  Collapsible stocks are a no go

you can try to jerry rig a pistol buffer. the problem you're gonna run into is that stocks that go on carbine receiver extension are the same length as the tube, so you can shorten one but your stock will still be as long as the old tube.

Gentlemen,

The 10 inch buffer tube is on the long side, I've  found them online at 7.25 inches. That's what I'm trying to do. The actual stock isn't really a concern, I'll figure out what I want to put on and how to make sure it's MA compliant when I get to that part. I'm just attempting to find out mechanically, if I put on a shorter buffer tube, if I will need a different buffer and spring then the one that is currently in my M&P.
Thanks for the quick replies!

Gman,

Thanks, but if I put on a collapsible stock, and pin it of course, then the stock will be shorter. If I can figure out how to post a pic I will show you what I'm talking about.
Thanks
