So I built this rifle part by part during the panic (avoiding panic prices, but probably wasting a lot in separate shipping costs...), only to realize that it's actually *heavier* than my full-stock 20" A2 clone. Seriously, it could darn near pass for a .308, ha. I'm pretty positive the barrel is the main culprit, as the weight of the Troy Bravo Battlerail is pretty negligible (even with the rail protectors, mbus, and afg2), though I know the Magpul STR stock I have is a bit heavier than an MOE or CTR. I bought the barrel from a store in northern MN thanks to a tip from a commenter here, and it's supposed to be a Lothar Walther mid-length CM 16" .223 Wylde, though it didn't come with any markings. It's also not supposed to be an HBAR, but I don't know what it is, heh. The gunsmith who assembled the rifle for me had to swap out my Troy low-profile gas block for a Noveske, because it was the only one that would slide down all the way.
So, I'm considering having ADCO recontour it, but it would help to know what it's at *now* to figure out what I want it contoured down to. Thanks in advance!

Roughly medcon it looks like.  Reprofiling the entire barrel is pretty pricey FYI.

Looks to be between a MedCon and HBAR to me. The best way to find out is measure the diameter under the handguards, and between the front sight and FH.

Hmm, thanks. So do you think it would be worthwhile to get it filed down? I'm not really sure I'd want to go all the way down to a lightweight profile, and when I stop by my local shop and check out all the (now) full racks, most every other 16" seems to be a whole lot lighter than mine, even without lightweight barrels, ha. And Lothar Walther is supposed to make pretty good barrels, and I hear a lot of other big companies actually just get their barrels from them.

its going to cost you about 120$ to reprofile the entire barrel @ adco plus shipping both ways.  more if you have to use shop services for disassembly/reassembly.

realistically it's almost the cost of a new barrel to get one completely reprofiled.  your best bet would be trade it or sell it on the EE and get what you want.

Good find. It looks like the Special Purpose Rifle profile to me.

I agree with thepinkmist, list it up in the EE and buy a different barrel if you prefer something lighter weight. People seem to like the SPR profiles, it'd probably sell relatively fast at a good price.

I'm not sure what it is but my Centurion barrel looks almost identical to that except it tappers down one more time right at the end. It would be nice to know though.
