Never had any trouble with any BCM stuff before, but I started having difficulty using the charging handle after putting a few mags through my new gun.  Pulled it out and noticed the end of the CH had chipped off where it engages the bolt carrier.  Not sure exactly how that can even happen?  Any ideas on how to avoid breaking my equipment in the future?

Email BCM, and tell them what happened.

Interesting. The other day I had a stuck casing and literally jumped kick pogo'd mine about ten times to get the bolt loose. I'm sure BCM will take care of it and it's a rare occurence.

The only time I've seen this was when someone racked an incomplete build without the barrel.

What brand bolt carrier?  Perhaps the ledge is under sized?

Did you contact BCM, or just post it here?  Don't expect BCM to come see your post, give them an email and let them take care of it.  Whatever damaged your CH, I have no doubt they will take care of you.

Thanks guys. Pretty sure i must have cracked it doing something stupid while i was putting the build together and then it finally chipped off after i put a few mags through.  For the record, I trust the BCM brand enough that I already went out and bought another CH at the LGS.  I certainly didnt mean to imply that it was a
BCM defect, just wanted to know how one could manage to do that kind of damage to a CH.  Lesson learned: be careful with an incomplete build.

Put everything together and let the bolt go before installing the barrel?

Well if you don't fully understand how  everything works and want to see how everything mates up while waiting for barrel.  Barrel keeps bcg from going to far in.  Steel bcg vs aluminum ch.  The ch is going to give.

I don't know why anyone but you should be responsible for your amateurish fuck up, but I'm fairly certain they will replace a part you admittedly screwed the pooch with.

Your first post was to criticize (albeit semi-covertly) a reputable manufacturer. Those that create a membership here just to complain about a manufacturers defect or a broken part always makes me a little leery of their real intentions. Why wouldn't you just email them before putting this on an open forum?

How many times have you seen poster asking what to buy and the reply was "just build your own"?  Half the time they get talked into it.

also check if your barrel has any forward play.  If it's that loose I can also see this happening.

Get off your high horse.  I didn't see him bashing any company, and he even replied before your dipshit post that he knew it was his fault.

OP stated that he went out and purchased another charging handle.
why is anyone bashing him for building his own rifle?

People make mistakes, no big deal.

OP, go shoot the hell out of your rifle, and have fun!

Can you please leave this bullshit in the Larue forum or GD where it belongs instead of bringing this to the technical forums?  I would have thought your extra two years here over the OP would have given you enough common sense to leave that out, but I guess I was wrong.

To the OP, sometimes this stuff happens, live and learn.  Ignore people like this, and drive on.
