Im assuming this is for Comp1911 since I read his responses on other threads but I need a couple of questions answered.
1- Are all GB set screws standardized? Im using a BCM low profile on a DD barrel. 2- Can I use a .750 fixture for a .625 barrel? 3- You sell direct? (sold out everywhere and brown ells is almost double the price of others) Thanks all, Mike. |

Im using a BCM low profile on a DD barrel. No, every one is different it seems. The only 'standard' hole is the rear hole, the hole directly under the gas port through which the actual gas port is drilled. 2- Can I use a .750 fixture for a .625 barrel?
I wouldn't It might work but if it does not then you screwed up a good barrel, then who are you going to blame. 3- You sell direct? (sold out everywhere and brown ells is almost double the price of others) Thanks all, Mike. Both set screws do not need to be dimpled anyway. The biggest asset of dimpling, and the only dimple that is really needed, is the one opposite the gas port which makes lining up the gas block idiot proof. If you degrease the set screws, the gas block set screw threads, use blue Lock-Tite on the set screws then that gas block is not going anywhere. I have over a dozen set screw barrels and most of them did not have dimples and none of them ever shot loose. I made my own jigs and dimpled the barrels because I am always pulling off the gas block it seems to change out handguards or something, so the dimple makes putting them back on idiot proof and I am all over that. Otherwise dimpling is simply not needed. Nice to have but if installed correctly you don't 'need' the dimples to hold the gas block in position and you sure don't need two of them. I have PRI, YHM, DD, VLTOR, DPMS, and MI set screw gas blocks and none of them have the second set screw hole in the same place as the others, so dimpling the second set screw is foolish IMO unless you know beyond any doubt that you will never change things out. |
