This is a story about my experience with a couple pieces of gear but first a little about my back ground.
I am a former Marine and have been a cop for a long time. I have always been a gun nut and my extended family shares my interest. I have owned my Colt 6920 for about 6 years now. In the last three years I have really pushed myself to improve my rifle skills and I am now a rifle instructor and rifle armorer with our agency. I still believe I have a lot to learn and a lot of room for improvement. The cool thing about all this is I get a lot of opportunities to try out and experiment with different rifle accessories.
So in addition to improving my fundamentals I have always looked for accessories that eased/enhanced the application of my fundamentals and thus improved my shooting skills. A few years ago I spent the money and purchased a Battle Comp for my 6920. The comp did have a very subtle impact on how my rifle shot and the muzzle rise, but it was not the “wow” I was expecting. With that said I was still happy with the comp.

Leap forward a couple of years and now I am building an AR .308. With it I decide to get a JP captured recoil buffer spring. I test fired the .308 without a muzzle device to compare it to my bro-n-law’s DPMS .308. I was very much pleased with the smooth steady softer recoil of the rifle.
Leap forward another month and I go to the range. My rifle still leaps at every shot even with the battle comp but not quite as bad as the A2. I decide I want to tame the rifle a little more. I have some money burning a hole in my pocket and decide that I am going to get a JP captured spring for my 6920.
Jump forward to another range day and on this day I have a couple SWAT guys and another instructor with me. At the end of the day I decide to shoot my rifle with the newly installed JP device. I settle in on my rifle in a good tight standing position like always and prepared to recover quickly from the usual muzzle rise so I can pop off a second quick shot. I pulled the trigger and there was no muzzle rise and I found myself pointing the rifle to the ground instead of pulling it down to the target. That was an OMG moment. So I lightened my hold and fired off a few more shots. The rifle held on target each shot and the muzzle rise was negligible. I could have fired the rifle one handed and hit accurately. I passed the rifle around to the other guys and they had the same OMG reaction when shooting it. Now keep in mind all our Government weapons are standard rifles with A2 Comps on them so the difference was night and day for them.

The point of my story is my Battle Comp and my JP silent captured spring is a match made in heaven.

My next tests will be to remove the Battle Comp and try out the Griffin, a Spikes and a Bravo Company Comp on my rifle.
