Hey all,
I'm going to check out an upper receiver group here pretty soon. The listing said it has only had about 300 rounds shot through it. This is my first build, so I don't know a ton about the little things to look for on uppers. Anything particularly I should look at? Anyway to ensure that he's being at least mostly truthful about the 300 rds? I don't want to get ripped off because I accidentally overlook something. Thanks |

Bring a good little flashlight to shine inside the receiver, look for gouges, scratches, polish from the carrier etc. Then look down the bore and see how it looks. If you're really picky bring a cleaning kit and run a patch with clp or oil through the bore side. Then inspect the muzzle for nicks etc if you can see it.
If it only has 300 rounds the gas tube where the BCG attaches should not have much fouling on it. Also the gas tube at the front sight or sight base should look very clean too. Pull the charging handle out and look at it and the receiver. A relatively new receiver won't have too many drag marks from working the charging handle. |
