Hey guys, I currently have a Colt LE6920MP-B (the Magpul edition 6920).

I was contemplating adding a quad rail to replace the Magpul hand guard.  Does anyone know if this would be a good idea? I basically want to add a light and/or laser to the rifle.

I have seen a couple parts that I can use to mount a light on the MOE hand guard, but I wasn't sure what would be a better idea - mounting on the existing MOE hand guard or swapping a quad rail in.

Opinions and input would be great :)

KAC M4 RAS and 6920 go together like peanut butter and chocolate.  Particularly for $150 direct from KAC.

IMHO - the only reason to go with another railed handguard is to go free float.

I agree about the free float rail.  I just wasn't sure whether it would go well with the 6920 - it would have to be a really short rail.

I would leave the Magpul guard on there to keep it light. There are many reasons to upgrade lots of parts on the Colt but its a fine AR just the way it is. It's setup well and is nice and light! Just use one of the Magpul MOE rails mounted on the guard. You can even use a light with built in laser to keep clutter to a minimum. I like to keep ARs simple. My only planned mods for my LE6920 were a Magpul ASAP AND MS3 sling and a light red dot sight - done, call it a day!

Now, to get all of the features exactly like I want, I am going to build one:
-floating barrel with quad rail
-fold down front site
-6 position buffer tube/stock
-BCM charging handle
-Geissele trigger

You can see what would happen to my perfectly good Colt Magpul LE6920? All of the parts would get replaced and I would end up with a one-off AR that's not really even a Colt anymore.

That's what makes me ask :) I don't want to lose the identity of the rifle, either.  I will definitely be building one exactly how I want it when prices go down, but was just thinking of doing something for the time being.

Impact weapons components makes some slick mounting solutions for the moe hand guards.

Along with the stuff magpul makes for the moe i see little reason to go railed unless its freefloat.

The kac stuff does have some cachet to it though.

If you just want to add a light and nothing else, I agree just get a short rail either from Impact Weapons Components or Magpul.

This way will keep your carbine as light as possible, adding quad rails adds a little more front weight to the weapon but not that bad.

On my standard model 6920 I have a Knight's Armament Co. (KAC) model M4 RAS rail system because I'm also using a KAC forward vertical grip.

On my other carbine I have a Daniel Defense model EZ CAR 7.0 rail both these rails are of high quality and doesn't alter the configuration of the carbine, I could always take it off to go back to the original factory setup.
