which barrel? > Rifles, Uppers, Lowers, Barrels, and more

I am looking to build a new ar upper and after looking at for a barrel there are just so many out there and my local shop has no info for me. So what is a good barrel, I don't care whether it is a 1:7 or 1:9 twist ratio I just want a well made barrel from a reliable company, preferably in the 16" length. Thanks

Right now, you're going to have a lot of trouble finding any good 16" bbls. I checked four sites (BCM, Rainier Arms, PK Firearms and PSA) and they didn't have any. I'm glad I don't really need one.

I know right now it will be very difficulty and the wait time is long but it seems like it would be less of a wait time than buying a complete rifle. I just want intell on a good barrel.

If I really needed a barrel, I would be hitting the EE here as much as possible and scouring all the vendors associated with this site. I also wouldn't be against going with a 14.5" (with perm. attached muzzle device bringing it up to 16"), an 18" or even a 20". But that's just me.

What do you want to do with the barrel? How much do you want to spend? Good is relative to price and requirement.

I want to use it for shooting at the range, running timed course, home defense. There are just so many barrels out there I just want to narrow it down some.

I read some really good reviews about it being a great value, only for $179.00. I'm not sure how many they will allow to be backordered but they are due in 12/31/12.
