Can anyone advise what the difference is between mil-spec and commercial-spec? Magpul offers their ACS-L stock in both, at the same price, but does not explain. There are dimensional differences to the buffer tube. I believe the mil-spec is flat on the end and the comspec is angled. There is probably some else about length and/or diameter. This matters because if your stock doesn't match your buffer tube, it may not fit properly. Secondly, mil-spec is supposed to mean that it meets a certain standard for composition and construction. However, some manufacturers refer to mil-spec purely based on which buffer tube they fit, not meeting mil-spec quality standards. That said, I believe a mil-spec Magpul stock is true mil-spec. |
| Referring to buffer tube outside diameter and the size of the hole in the stock. Commercial is slightly larger in diameter than mil-spec. Also the way the threads are made on the buffer tube, either rolled or cut. Somebody tried to reinvent the wheel with the commercial size. Mil-spec is the way to go. |
