So I'm going to attempt my first AR upper build and am thinking of something a bit eccentric and need some help. I'm looking to build a varmint dissipator with the barrel extending ~1-2 inches from the end of the rail. The main use for this rifle would be target/ prairie dog shoots and the like.
For the upper, I thought a 16 inch stainless steel bull barrel, like this coupled with one of these would work with a low profile gas block. I'm just not sure that setup would have adequate space for barrel + gas block. I am open to other thoughts on the subject as i came up with this idea over the weekend and am rolling ideas around. |

I like your rail choice. It's a proven solid performer.
In my opinion however, the bull barrel is overkill and not needed. A standard HBAR style stainless barrel would be a much better choice in my opinion. The bull barrels in my opinion make a naturally balanced, fun to shoot AR, into a rifle that is good for nothing but bench shooting. This is only my opinion, but if you could handle one before hand I think you would agree. There are plenty of stainless barrels out there that will shoot as good or better, and weigh a whole lot less. Meaning you will shoot and enjoy your rifle more. YMMV. I would recommend something like THIS Or.....THIS Both are guaranteed to shoot sub-MOA. |
