Hi all:

Looking for a varmint upper.  Want a flat top, 20-24" length barrel, Wylde chamber.  I would like to be able to maintain 1MOA accuracy out to 300 yards if possible.

Here are my questions:
-How much difference is there between the 20 and 24" lengths in terms of ballistics performance and accuracy?

-How big is the difference between a 1/8 and a 1/7 twist rate?  Both in terms of accuracy and barrel wear.

-What gr loadings should I be looking at for both intermediate and longer range shooting?

-Will a 1/8 twist stabilize a light-weight frangible bullet?  Sometimes I like to go to the indoor range when I can't get outside and all they allow is a light-weight frangible bullet.

-Who makes the best barrel?  Lothar?  Krieger?

-Anything else you all would recommend for an accuracy junky?

I'm going to top the rifle with an 8-32x scope.   My trigger is a Geissele High-speed National Match.  My stock is a magpul PRS stock.  KNS trigger and hammer pins.

Recommendations???

Might post some of your questions in the armory/precision section first. Once you decide what you want, then post come here to look for what you decide on.

Some people are gonna want to know..

What are you going to do with the rifle....carry it hunting? Benchrest? How far are you planning on shooting? What bullet weights do you desire?

1:8 vs 1:7 may make a difference past 600 yards with the 77+ grain bullets (these have to be fed single feed style)

20" vs 24" may make a difference if you are gonna hump the rifle

223 wylde vs 556 vs 223 rem.....May give you better accuracy than shooting 223 out of a 556 rifle but ask the experts on that one.

Persoannly, I've been real happy with my reloads in my 556 J&T varmint upper. I want to shoot some longer distances though, so far I've been limited to 100 yards.

I'm going to be shooting mostly from the bench.  This rifle won't be used for hunting, just target shooting.  I'm not so interested in trying to reach out to 600 yards yet as opposed to achieve really good accuracy at 100-200-300 yards.  Not sure exactly what gr loads I will be using, so looking for some advice on that.

I know an AR isn't a bench gun, but I'd like to get 1MOA out to 300 if possible.

Then go with a 24" barrel match barrel...prob gonna have a 223 chamber (won't be able to shoot 556 in it)

If you are only going out to 300 then I don't think it will really matter b/w 1:8 or 1:7. But you might do 1:8 b/c it might let you go a little further down into the lighter weight bullets.

You still ought to look at the pics and posts the precision section.
