I don't really know the stresses on a lower receiver, so what is the consensus on a polymer lower?  I also know that ATI's rep is spotty, so maybe it's not a great idea from them specifically?  I would want to build up a 556 rifle.

To many nice forged aluminum lowers out there at decent prices to even think of one of these.

I purchased a polymer lower made by Plum Crazy last year and put about 500 rounds through it without having any problems. The only part of the receiver that I noticed any real stress is where the buffer tube screws in. There is a tiny bit of flex that occurs at that area with each round fired. I haven't tried any of the composite lowers that are now being produced by other companies though. Whether or not that flexing will eventually weaken the material and break remains to be seen. There are many variables which may determine whether this may, or may not happen. Since it is possible to create a bad batch of polymer while mixing the chemicals or encounter unseen errors while pouring and molding the mix, there is always a risk that you may get a receiver with less than normal strength. Plum Crazy claims that they have a lifetime warranty, but last time I checked, it seems as though they may have gone out of business. ATI is a well-established company. If they offer a lifetime warranty and the receiver is priced low enough, you might want to give it a try. You can always resell it if you are not satisfied with it.

i have a poly lower from new frontier armory.

was only $99 with lpk, RE, buffer, spring and stock installed that to me was definately worth it 1200 rounds on it not an issue.

I wouldn't even bother with a stripped poly lower for about the same or a tiny bit more you can get aluminum

Cool, sounds like New Frontier is the way to go.

I agree with this. I got a complete Plum Crazy lower about 18mos ago, use on a dedicated .22lr and it's been fine. Paid ~$120 delivered,  I wouldn't pay $50 for a stripped though.

I have a Plum Crazy with a little over 800 rounds with no issues.I also just purchased a New Frontier lower. The only problem I have with it is the trigger guard is a solid piece. The guy I talked with said they did that because that was a very weak point in there design.Other than that I'm satisfied with it.(Lifetime warranty is included with the NFA)
