I bought an upper off the ee a while back and it needs a bcg. Previous owner said it had around 500 rounds through it. If I'm correct there shouldn't be any issues throwing a new bcg in it correct?

There shouldn't be a problem, but you should always check the headspace to be on the safe side.

New barrel and bolt combinations should be checked.
Buying a used gun is like buying a used car with no odometer. You can never really be sure how much it has been used.

Checking headspace is a basic safety practice.
If the upper is good there should not be any problems.
