My photography skills aren't much and neither is my camera but I took a few pics showing the differences between some popular latches. There are some pics on the internet like this of course but I didn't find these particular models compared.
PRI Big Latch (Weenie) Badger Ordnance Tactical Latch (Gen I and II) VLTOR/BCM Gunfighter Mod 4 (medium) I hadn't yet decided which I preferred between the Badger Gen II and the PRI but I was leaning toward the Gen I. The Gen I I find to be big & clumsy in most any application. The BCM is obviously in a different league due to being more than just a latch but is sized comparably. All four latches, from top to bottom - Badger Gen I, Badger Gen II, BCM, PRI Big Latch
Badger Gen I, Badger Gen II, BCM, PRI Big Latch again (you can't see the Gen II as it's exactly the same contour as the Gen I, see pic below)
Badger Gen II top, Gen II bottom
PRI top, Badger Gen II bottom
BCM top, Badger Gen II bottom

| After spending a bit more time with the Badger 'Gen II' I found that it is rather sharp and prone to gouging when slung across my back, more so than the PRI and more so than the BCM. I still like it a lot as far as the tactile feel goes and the manipulation it provides but I replaced it with a BCM for now. It's likely to find a home on another gun though. |

If you are still looking for a good latch, try to find an LMT enhanced charging handle Me? I'm rather charging-handled out. I suppose I'd be willing to try one but I'm not looking. The LMT is also in the $40-50 price range which is firmly into the VLTOR/BCM territory. |

I really like the ACLM that I picked up. http://www.brownells.com/.aspx/pid=27258/Product/AR-15-M16-ACLM-trade-AMBIDEXTROUS-CHARGING-HANDLE Good for those who'd like ambi-capability. Expensive though. If I ever spent that much I would be looking at a PRI Gasbuster, unless I become left-handed somehow. |
