A couple of years ago I got a lower Ceracoted.  Recently, I noticed pitting in the area just under the castle nut!  My gun safe is indoors(always room temp), and I have moisture absorbers that are recharged and changed out regularly.  On top of that, I live in AZ.  Moisture shouldn't be an issue.  I want toprotectmy receivers, want em to be in it for the long haul.  Give em to my Grandkids (when they are old enough and responsible enough).  So, now I'm thinking of having my lower coated in NP3 plus (Robar)or  Nickel Boron (WMD).  Believe it or not, the Nickel Boronis about half the price of the NP3 Plus.

I'm wondering if it is worth it, and if the applied coating would throw off the specs.  Opinions and pics welcome .

You talking about the steel endplate or the actual aluminum reciever? Just replace the endplate with a quality park'd one and forget it, maybe buy a couple and grease them (poor mans cosmo) so they stay fresh for the kids and change them as needed.  If its aluminum I really would not worry about corrosion.  Now a galvanic or chemical corrosion in the aluminum I'd worry about but that's just a matter of stopping the cause.

Whats the cost of a brand new lower receiver vs having it coated???

I say buy a new lower and throw it in a sealed ammo can with dessicant packets... that would probably be cheaper then sending one off to have it coated, plus you would have a second receiver.

Refinish it yourself...it's fun and simple to do...use a thermal cured finish...Norrells Moly Resin aka KG Gunkote...or go with Cerkaote which is a more durable finish...blast the old finish off and make sure you degrease the parts.
