Hello,

I am just about to pull the trigger on a suppressor (YHM Phantom 5.56 and YHM QD Flash Hider).  The problem I may have is that, at this moment, I am running a DD 10.3" barrel and DD 10" Lite rail with a Noveske KX3 brake.  Once I figure out how to remove the KX3 (belt wrench perhaps), I don't know if the suppressor will be able to fit because of the short barrel and longer rail.  If this is a problem, I was thinking about shaving a rail or 2 down(the least as possible) to make it fit.

My question is: Has anyone shaved their rail system and how did it look afterwards?

Thanks you..

I spent 30 minutes with a dremel tool and a few of the carbide cutoff discs to remove about 1/2" from a DD Omega. It was a 12" rail and a 12.5" barrel. I used alumablack over the bare aluminum and no one has ever noticed that it's been cut unless I point it out. Easy, but take your time. You can use a file to kind of true it up if needed.

I did the same to my Daniel Defense MFR, and have also done it to a Troy MRF-R in an attempt to reduce some forward weight.  It came out really well both times.

Best results would be on a lathe followed closely by a band saw with a fence and some careful set up.

What kinda bit would you use on a lathe?

Id probably go band saw first

I would assume a parting bit.
