First off, I am new to the AR scene and am hoping the site will give me a better understand of it.

That being said, I have the possibility of acquiring an AR. RRA Lower, unknown upper, A2 stock, and a stainless steel bull barrel (20") . Right now, there is a hand guard on there I am not to fond of.

My question is, can anyone recommend a hand guard got the heavier bull barrel and if not, what is the style I am looking for? Is it a free floating hand guard? And if so, Is there something I need to be looking for in them, i.e. a certain diameter size or anything?

Thanks for the space for the question and I appreciate any future responses.

Thanks Nick

I have an 18" SS Bull barrel. Im using a MidWest Industries Free Floated Rail. I like it, its a bit wide, but works.

With most of the FF tubes, youll need special wrench to install, most companies have their own tools you can buy for their handguards.

The bull barrel should not matter so far as fit. Now a low pro gas block for the bull barrel may be another matter for fit with some rails.

So I can pretty much look for any free floating rail correct?

I would believe so. The barrel nut has the same size inside diameter of the receiver outside diameter which is certainly smaller than the bull barrel.

So would I be able to swap out the barrel nuts from the one I have to the one I get or no? Do I need to look for a rail specifically made for bull barrels? Thats where I get stuck lol.

Most free float rails come with their own barrel nut sans that is why they want you to buy their specific wrench to install it.

Most rails will cover Bull barrel, its when you get into the gas block that there is a fit issue, as you can see in my pic, I opt'd for a FF rail that doesnt go past the gas block, so I dont have any issues, some people want longer rails to cover their gas blocks, that is where it gets tricky, not all gas blocks will fit under all rails. You have to search this info out.

Figure out what kind of gas block or FSB you going to use and then go from there.

Here is mine. So just wondering if anything will work as long as its Free Floating. Its an M&A barrel I believe.
