Hey guys,
I´m searching for "my" modular hand guard. This is my AR: http://www.schmeisser-germany.de/ger/sport_ar15a-ultramatch.html The one with the quad rail, it is heavy, wide and painfull to hold. The barrel is 20" long and has a dia. of roundabout 0,9". So I´m looking for a modular hand guard which should be a free floater light, slim, well-rugged and good to grab. Price matters, but 200 Bucks are still ok. Which one is the right for me |

Interresting! Seems to be a Bullbarrel too!? What´s the Dia of your barrel? You have mounted the notch on the gas block, so is mine. I wonder about those who are mounting their notch on the hand guard AND having a bipod under it. Anyway how stable a hand guard will be, I´m pretty sure that it will bend a little when you´re going into firing position on your bipod or on your handguard. Maybe it is just 1mm (about 0,04"), but how much is that on 100, 200 or 300m. If you agree to my opinion, can you explain why people do this? |

The gas block is railed; it was the one included with the barrel. I might put a front sight on it in the future. With a setup like this, you'd mount the bipod to the handguard, not to the barrel or gas block. Since it's a free floating handguard, even if the handguard deflects under the load of a bipod, it will not affect the barrel at all. Thanx for the pic! So, this is like mine. I have a flip-up notch on the railed gas block on the front of the free floating barrel. My bipod is mounted under the handguard, so there is no contact to the barrel. But how is this with the sight mounted on the handguard? Isn´t there a difference in the groupings? |

If you're shooting irons and you mount a sight to the handguard, I suppose there could be deflection if enough for was exerted onto the handguard. In that case, you'd be better off mounting the front sight to the gas block. |

Ok, both are nice. I think I need about 12,5". The JP weighs 15.0 oz., but what´s about the Troy´s? Another one, the Samson evolution http://www.samson-mfg.com/ar-15_html/product/Evolution-12_37.html weighs only 11.5 oz.! I have a Samson Evolution. It's an excellent handguard - it's light, rigid, and easy to install. http://i243.photobucket.com/albums/ff93/stratocaster81/Three%20gun%20rifle/IMG_1526-800.jpg |

Yes, it is the Rainier version. Quoted:

It's a DPMS Mk12 stainless barrel. It measures .750" at the gas block. It's heavier under the handguards, but it's definitely not a bull barrel. I never bothered to measure it under there. A picture: How does the barrel shoot? I've been busy with two jobs and a move, so I haven't been able to work up a load for it yet. Using Hornady 68gr BTHP with Varget that I loaded for another rifle, I was getting 1.25" groups at 100 yards using a 1-4x scope and a Caldwell Lead Sled. My eyes are lousy and I'm not a great shot to begin with, but I'm very pleased with how it shoots and look forward to working up some dedicated loads for it. For the price, I don't think it can be beat. |

All right,
got it. I was a little bit scary if the parts from three different producers (rifle Schmeisser, barrel nut DPMS, hand guard Samson) will get in line together. At least mounting the hand guard was a little bit tricky, but not because it didn´t fit. No it had zero tolerance and slipped in extreme tight. The dia and the weight of the Samson is only about 60% oft the UTG. The Samson feels great, very handy. Now I can press my thumb on the left side and the other fingers on the right side up to the rail on the top. So I do have more control about the rifle and I am now able to repeat the grip exactly all the time contacting the rail. With the wide UTG guard this was impossible. The Samson has a high quality and is very accurate to dimension. No ridges or scratches found and it seems to be robust too. Don´t get me wrong, the UTG rail wasn´t that bad for a "cheap" hand guard. It was durable and did his job. But the Samson plays in another league. I would buy it again an can approve it with no doubt. Thanx to Samson. Well done. P.S.: How can I load up some pics? |
