i have a perfectly functioning ar with standard buffer, will a heavier buffer reduce recoil to help tighten shot groups? right now on doubletaps im hitting in 8" area from 50 yrds with about a second delay between taps to reacquire target. so is the buffer the answer or more practice on recoil management to stay tighter on target.

A heavier buffer might reduce muzzle jump a little bit, but the real reason for them is to smooth out the working of the action and slow the cyclic rate.  Cheaper than a new comp if it works for you.

i gotcha so the reduced recoil or increased recoil absorbtion has little to no effect on muzzle climb?

Recoil is subjective and opinions will vary.  That said, I run H2 and H3 buffers in my 14.5 BCM mid and it smooths our the action, reduces felt recoil and reduces muzzle climb.   Definitely worth the freight.

The only TRUE way to determine that is to get a shot timer, and start working with it.  Only you will be able to see that difference, when working with one.

You say "about a second," which may be 1.68 seconds, in reality.  When you see your follow-ups coming down to 1.45 seconds, then 1.22 seconds, then you'll know you're making an improvement.  Otherwise, you're just guessing.

Get a heavier buffer after working with the shot timer, and see how you do with it, compared to previous times.

There's no other "real" way to judge something like that.

If you have an iPhone there is a free surefire shot timer app that seems to work very well. I've been playing around with it and it works well enough.
