I've narrowed my next build, (on a PSA lower, )  to either a LMT SOPMOD or a Magpul ACS stock. I'm looking for a stock with a profile that provides a good cheek weld.

Either one of these looks like a candidate. They look similar with the exception of the storage compartment. The price difference, $128 vs $258 is what has me thinking though.

Can anyone point out any pro's or con's for either? Is the double the price for a SOPMOD really worth it. I don't mind paying for quality or functionality but not into the name game.

I've had a SOPMOD for several years and I like it, but a friend on the board has pointed out an advantage of the ACS.  While in a target rich environment with a magnified optic, his rear sandbag tripped the adjustment lever on his SOPMOD and he got a face full of scope.  The friction lock on the ACS avoids that possibility.

option C.)  RRA Operator

This is what I'm using.

Angled cheek pieces. Tubular storage for batts/ear plugs. Height adjustable buttpad.

I can see how this could happen if one was caught in the moment wacking tangos.

If going the SOPMOD route, I'd be hawking the EE for one via a private sale.  ACS, EMOD, IMOD and SOPMOD all offer great cheekweld and your buddy can decide how important storage is.  I'd be hard pressed to say if one is "better" than the other...personal preferences are a big factor here.

That is not really helpful for the OP, but I guess it is in ARFCOM tradition to 'get both.'

I run SOPMODs are my two AR's. I LOVE the smooth cheek rest area. I have a rather nice beard, and even trimmed tight, any other stocks I've used with nooks and crannies pull my beard hair out. It smarts!

I've owned both.  The SOPMOD is great as far as simplicity.  However its more expensive and offers fewer options.  The ACS has better and more accessable storage compartments.  You really can't go wrong with either.

EVERY product gets bitched about on the forums at some point. Even products as good as the ACS and SOPMOD.

I have an ACS on my scoped 18" and I like it for that rifle.  Not sure if I would like the ACS on my 16" rifles.  I have never felt a SOPMOD and don't know what the weight on it is like.  Just depends on what you are going to be using your rifle for.
