I was looking on the KAC website and I stumbled across a KAC M5 RAS rail. It says seconds on it and I was wondering what this meant. Are these still brand new? Or do they have any marks on them? Does anybody have any feedback on them that have orderd them?

I had asked KAC on their forum here about these a while ago seeing if they would offer them and they never responded.
Anyway I've used their factory seconds for the m4 style guards and they are very good. For them kac said most of the seconds they had had the left and right markings laser engraved on wrong. Mine was pretty much perfect. Thanks for posting this. Ordered a set for my 20inch ar-15. |

When they had M4 RAS seconds for sale most of them were cosmetic blems or the color of the anodizing was off slightly...I hadn't heard that the mismarked the laser engraving, thats odd. Thats what their rep said. You have t numbers on the top and for kac they have l numbers and r numbers for the sides. They did the left and right hand sides numbers in reverse. Mine were fine, as were the others I've seen that friends ordered. |

"Seconds" is probably not a good discriptive term as these are from the same prodution lot that is Government inspected and 99.99% passed.
The Inspector can pull pieces from a lot for very minor issues. On the M5, the lasering of the grove addresses is sometimes off a bit because the rail is so long and the entire length is addressed in one nano second while the lens is stationary over the rails mid-point. Minor blemishes are another reason. But the bottom line is they are the exact same mil-spec material, machining, finishing etc. as the parts that are passed and shipped to the Military. |
