I've been told most AR receivers are made of aluminum. Are there any that don't follow this? Reason?

Weight and ease of machining.

I've seen some Ti and Bronze lowers around.
Probably a steel one too.
People have made plastic, wood and paper lowers for proof of concept.

All the lower really has to resist is some spring pressure.
The extension threads probably take the most force.
Followed by the two pivot pin areas.

There's a company out there making one out of polymer, I forget the name, but a quick internet search will probably turn them up...

I was just shooting at my range, and a guy came in with an Bushmaster AR and the entire lower was polymer, at least from what I saw up close when he asked for my help chambering a round.

A guy at the range a couple weeks back had a Bushmaster lower that was all polymer.
