Building 16" carbine.  Will shoot at most 1000 rounds in a year.  Semi auto only with the occasional fast fire for fun but mostly paced range shooting at 100 yards.
Chrome lined chrome molly or standard chrome moly?  What say you.  Thanks in advance.

Get lined if you are shooting 1k a year unless you plan to re-barrel every 3-5 years. YMMV

Depends on exactly what you want to do with your rifle.

In general chrome chamber/barrel lining results in longer barrel life, easier cleaning and a slight reduction in accuracy.

The vast majority of battle-type rifles are chrome lined.

Military M4s, M16s, etc. are all chrome lined.

Mine are all chrome lined (except the LWRCs which use a different process to make an even harder surface).

Do you have lousy gun-cleaning habits?  If so, get chrome lined as it will be more forgiving of corrosion.

3-5k isn't going to come close to shooting a non-chromed barrel out. My first AR was a non-chrome RRA that must have had at least 8k rounds of wolf and it shot really good groups at 100 yards.

I have only had chrome lined barrels since and they do not offer the same accuracy.

General Purpose = Chrome Lined
Precision Shooting = Stainless

These two get to the heart of the matter.  I understand the stainless argument and my 20" gun is stainless.  I also understand that chrome lined is easier to care for.  The basic question is will my level of usage, 1000 rounds a year max but more likely  500 to 600 rounds, warrant chrome lined or not?

I say for the few extra buck it's worth it.

When I rebuilt my carbine I put a chrome lined barrel on it.  I already had a SS 1x8 16 inch middy upper that I used for my hunting activities and I wanted a rifle I could shoot the hell out of, put crappy ammo through and that would be fairly easy to maintain.  I found a close out DD 1x7 M4 CL when they were going to their new barrels, the price was good so I bought that and a DD BCG for the rebuild.

If you're satisfied with your SS 20 for precision work I'd go with CL on my next one.  Most of us aren't going to notice the accuracy differences anyway unless you scope it and shoot it from a bench and maybe not even then, I've seen some CL barrels that shoot really well.

FWIW chrome lined barrels are worth it for the ease of cleaning IMO.

I would only get a Chro mo barrel if it had Hard Blue treatment.

The corrosion resistance of chrome lining is worth it in my opinion.  Especially if you live in a humid environment.
