OK, I've owned Colt AR-15s before - a Blue label 6731, my brother-in-law now owns and a pre-ban rare AR15A3 Carbine I profit-took on before the Ban sunset.

Plus I own a deuce of Colt M16A2s and a too many Colt 1911s. Call me a traditionalist or just call me old; I like pre-lock S&W revolvers as well.

Here's my question: What are the build & spec features of current Colt lowers? Thinking about buying a complete carbine to leave at the farmhouse for all-around use.

- Pin size mil-spec
- Screw or push-pin
- High/low shelf
- Yada, yada

Please opine. Thanks,

Mil-spec pivot pin and mil-spec FCG pins.
No shelf, there's a web of metal there now.

I'm pretty sure it's low shelf with a web over it.

All 6940 guns have .154 pins in the fcg and the 6920 colts produced during the time period during the 6940 period(new production guns) share the same mil-spec .154 pin size. The older Colt 6920's (pre 6940 guns) have the larger pins in the fcg. Other than the pin size they are identical in all respects.

Semantics.  The web closes off where the open end usually is, thus there is no shelf.  But yes, the bottom of the "box" you have is low, so you would still need to mill it to use a DIAS.

My latest current production Colt 6721 AR-15A3 Tactical Carbine made in 5/ 2009 have these lower features:

- FCG pin size: mil-spec 0.154"
- Pivot pin: push-pin
- Low shelf (with non machined web sear block)
- Selector lever: new style with extra lever material at the pivot line and reversible

Can you purchase stripped Colt 6920 lowers separately or can they only be obtained by stripping a factory complete 6920?

I think Specialized Armament sells stripped lowers, or at least lowers only.

Stripped Colt 6920 lower receivers and complete lowers are available from SAW.

However same type of lowers with lower prices sometimes are also available from gun dealers and private sellers.

Back in 2005 when I was looking for a Colt rifle stripped or complete lower, I found a stripped Match Target HBAR MT6601 lower receiver at my local dealer, but with Colt the price are mostly higher than other brands.
