Am i missing something i cant find any upper reviews anywhere????
Im locking at Colt 16 inch or Stag 16 inch..... how much weight is the HBAR to non HBAR??? I have a sp1 lower with Stag LPK and Tapco 6 post. stock.... I just need a complete upper... $1000 or less Any info would be great. |
| I have the Stag Model 2H upper on a Smith & Wesson M&P15 lower. 16" gov profile barrel. I also have two 20" HBAR uppers. I do not know the weight difference between a 16" gov profile and a 16" HBAR, but I do know that the HBAR heats up slower and stays cooler. However for my carbine I do perfer the gov profile barrel, however I also run standard M4 dual heat shield oval hand guards to keep the heat to a reasonable level during pratice (no full auto here, just semi autos however even after three 30 round mags in a slow fire mode, the barrel gets hot!). |
| A Colt upper is not a big deal. Colt Bolt groups are desirable, but the reciever itself is like any other and the barrels are nothing special in the accuracy dept. Don't get the Hbar regardless of brand. too heavy and slow with no advantage. Stag is fine, I guess Iwould call them average, but in this case average is pretty darn good. There are other uppers that are worth considering. board sponsors ADCO, and Bravo Co USA both have uppers with great specs and reputations. An upper can be sent in the mail with no paperwork so you don't need to bring it through a local dealer. |

Weight difference between gov't and HBAR on a carbine will be about 6 ounces.
If you can swing a Colt upper, you will not be disappointed. I would rather have my money go farther with BCM, Spike's, Daniel Defense, Centurion etc....but it's up to you. Upper (and a few other component) reviews on my blog |

That one is fine, but I am not a fan of that handguard. i like the Danial Defense, which is skinnier between the rails. (look at photos and you'll see what I mean) I really feel like ihave ahold of the DD rail. Troy is like the DD that way also. YHM is like the MI (too round/fat)
Yes, get that BCM bolt group Why are you looking at the M4? a mid length is a better overall design. I would recommend this one, then get them to put on the handguard of your choice on it. You can call and ask for Paul he will help you with your final decisions and put it together for you http://www.bravocompanyusa.com/BCM-SS410-16-Mid-Length-Upper-Receiver-Group-p/bcm-urg-mid16%20ss410.htm this upper with a DD handguard and BCM bolt would make you the envy of many of the guys on this forum. (but so would a drivers license and ten bucks |
