| I just got an SSA trigger and the pull weight is a little heavy for what I want to use it for. I know that Geissele uses a heavy hammer spring in their kits. Has anyone tried using a lighter hammer spring, such as the JP 3.5lb spring? Will there be any adverse effects, other than possible light primer strikes? |

A lot of trigger manufacturers use a lighter hammer spring for a "smoother" feeling of the trigger take up. As you have noted, this will result in a lighter hammer strike and inconsistent ignition. All Geissele triggers are designed to be used with a "full power" mil spec hammer spring. If you want a lighter first stage on the Geissele trigger, you can bend the trigger spring close to the coils to lighten your first stage. A little bend goes a long way. Before making any mods to the spring, make sure that your trigger moves freely in the receiver and is not rubbing against the sides of the trigger slot in the receiver or the safety. Please call the shop if you have any specific questions. JB |

I appreciate the post. I really didn't want to mess with the hammer spring. It really slams with authority and is noticeably more positive than that of my JP trigger. I considered going to a light spring on the trigger, but don't want to go bending springs. I was just going to use the JP 4.5lb spring set. I guess I should just call and ask.
I suppose I just didn't want to ignorantly blunder into a bad or unsafe situation by installing another spring set on the SSA trigger goup, so I posted to ask. |
