I am looking to build my 1st AR and have been looking at the mono uppers.  I like the look of the Mega round tube upper but can't seem to find any threads on it here.  The search tool seemed to be somewhat flaky with No results?

How are the Mega uppers?  Good value? expensive?  I know that the one I was looking at was about 530.00  Is it worth just getting the standard upper and adding on the foregrip in comparison?

It will be mated with a CNC lower from TNW.

Now this is also pretty much going to be a target gun for the range.

Thanks,
Jay in NJ

Looks pretty sweet.  I'd mate it with a Mega CNC lower though.  If you're looking for outright accuracy then I'd stick with a conventional Mega upper, and true the bbl mating surface before installing a high quality bbl.

I got real exited when I heard Mega was making a monolithic upper and wanted to use it for my recce build but once I saw the final design, I decided against it.

What I don't like is the barrel lock up. Because of the way it was designed, you can not have a low profile gas block installed under the rail section. To each their own but I do not like exposed gas blocks, especially if they are not pinned on.

Then you should look at the Aero Precision mono upper kit.

Yes you can.  Mega provides a full list of compatible low profile gas blocks that will fit under the rail.

Here are the assembly instructions: http://www.megamachineshop.com/pdf/MTS-ASSEMBLY-INSTRUCTIONS.pdf

page 4 shows the low pro gas block installed.  Pretty sweet....

I love the Mega mono upper. I'm going to do an all Mega build next. Midlength tubular upper, billet lower, Mega trigger... It's going to be delicious.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SEAL_Recon_Rifle

Typically 16" 1/8" midlength barrel, long rail system and flexible short/medium range optic. There's a whole Recce picture thread you can find.

Well that's fine if you have a set screw GB but what about a clamp on or pinned on GB?

I guess it's just not cup of tea. YMMV?
