What I'm considering doing is getting a BCM 20 inch stripped barrel: http://www.bravocompanyusa.com/PhotoGallery.asp?ProductCode=BCM%2DBRL%2Ds%2D20+STD

I was then going to have it sent to ADCO to be contoured to A1 profile and have a .625 gas block pinned to it.  I have a couple of questions /  concerns about doing this.

Firstly, is there a danger of the barrel being too thin where the gas block is pinned on?  If so, how was the gas block attached on the old M16A1 barrels?

Second, from the picture, the BCM barrel appears to already have the barrel extension installed.  Supposedly, installing this barrel in an upper with a new, in spec, bolt carrier group should result in proper headspace.  If it doesn't, however, what recourse is there to get the headspace correct?

If I can carry through with this, the result will be a 20 inch rifle with the weight of an A1, but 1/7 twist like the A2/A4 barrels.

ADCO would be able to answer these questions

• The reprofile to .625" at the gas block should be fine, but you can easily enough inquire via email to BCM and/or ADCO to verify
• If you can check the headspacing before you send it to ADCO if you're going to assemble the upper yourself, or have ADCO check it before they reprofile the barrel if you're planning on having them assemble the upper. Should it not pass (unlikely) BCM should rectify the situation for you.

Good luck with it. My pencil barrel 1:7 20" is one of my favorite ARs - you'll enjoy the finished product.
