I'm working on nailing down the rifle I'm getting after I re-deploy from the Sandbox here. One of the features I'm curious about is the free-float tube (or free-float barrel, not sure on the terminology). What benefits are derived from such a feature exactly?

Free-float tubes (handguards) are attached to the upper receiver only and do not make contact at any point on the barrel. This reduces accuracy-reducing pressure on the barrel by allowing it to "Free Float" and flex naturally and in a repeatable manner when fired.

I just put an omega rail on mine from DD.  I like it alot.  Great if you don't want to have to take your upper receiver apart.
