There are two lengths of these, correct? Anyone know if there is a seperate designation for each?

DD does not make a RAS II.  They make multiple rails in the RIS II family, and yes, they each have their own NSN.

I meant RIS II.

So the designator is just an NSN, and not a civillian-type moniker like "9.0" etc.?

THE PRICE LIST SHOWS THREE MODELS.

THE M4A1 RIS II AND MK 18 RIS II ARE ONLY SHOWN ON THE PRICE LIST IN TAN. THEY'VE ALSO MADE BLACK IN THE M4A1 RIS II IN THE PAST, HOWEVER, AND PROMISE TO HAVE BLACK IN THEIR NEXT RUN OF MK 18 RIS II'S.

Thanks for the link MSTN!

Question answered, for those interested:

Mk.18 RIS II: short

M4A1 RIS II: long

RIS II M4A1 FSP: long; made for M4 with old style FSB (sticks up through the rail)

Question answered.

No, there are four models not including the color differences.  The GL/SSC is not shown in the link you were given, but it is a RIS II rail.

GL/SSC= Grenade Launcher/ Sound Suppressor Compatible.

If you are interested in the DD RIS II rail, you might want to take a look at the following link.

Damn!  They're making black in that next run?  The same "next run" that's supposed to be done THIS week?

I'm waiting on a new tan one...

Better get done and shipped soon!

Damn Joe!  You just added the 9.0 x to your website after I've been wanting one but now I have a new MK18RIS II on order!  When will the new batch of RIS IIs be done?  My dealer friend was told 3-4 weeks at the end of january.  Are they ready yet?
2/25/2010 8:44:56 AM EDT
[#10]
Almost done brother.  Won't be long, I promise.

I'm DYING here!  Everything rear of the barrel has been Duracoated DD FDE and Tiger Stripe Brown (almost the same color!) and I'm anxiously awaiting a barrel and this hot-off-the-press RIS II...

Do you have an ETA?  It's supposed to be drop-shipped directly to me...

If it helps, you can keep the ERGO panels as an incentive to hurry up!  I'd still like the ladder though...

Our production guys are very busy right now, but the RIS II MK18s should be finished up in 1-2 weeks.  They are currently being anodized.  Once thats done, we just have a few post process operations to complete before we ship.

I was incorrect, there appear to be a bunch of new rails in the RIS II series.

Looks like I'm on the wrong end of the intel curve.

WOW - ME, TOO.

THE RIS II MK 18 IS ESPECIALLY APPEALING TO ME FOR USE WITH 10.5" BARRELS, SINCE THE D-D LITE 9.5 FSP, A SIMILAR DESIGN, IS ONE RAIL SLOT (1 CM = 0.4") TOO LONG TO ALLOW A WRENCH TO REACH THE FLATS ON A MUZZLE DEVICE ON THE END OF A 10.5" TUBE.

ITS DETACHABLE BOTTOM RAIL WILL MAKE INSTALLATION OF PWS PISTON SYSTEMS A SNAP, TOO.

GOOD SHOOTING,

WES

that RIS II MK18 FSP is super sweet !..next on my to buy list for sure.

when will they be available ?

Current production rail systems include the M4A1, M4A1 FSP, and MK18.  While  NSNs have been assigned to the MK18 FSP, GL/SSC, and GL/SSC FSP, they are currently not in production.

You getting a Mk 18 to replace the one you sold me? Sorry I took it away from you.
BTW I'm loving it. My favorite rail by far. Thanks buddy!

ETA- I see a GL/SSC FSP in my future if/when they go into production. Also can someone give me a length on the standard GL/SSC and FSP models?

Yep I sure am 80s!  It SUCKS that I decided to go back to one and get to wait 6 weeks for one :-(

I'm glad you like the one I sold you.  It was a nice rail.  I forgot to mention that the two shorter screws go into the bottom holes and I hope you figured that out...

I heard DD is only making these for the military; the ones we can buy are apparently contract over-runs. Why then are some anodized in Dark Earth and some in Black?

Make the one for the 12.5...like now!

I've succesfully matched PMags to the RIS II color.  Can't wait to finish this re-build!

These look like the best thing DD has ever put out and they will not even be generally available? I guess the military didn't want the normal ovalized DD profile.

The shorter bottom rail is what attracts me to the RIS II.

I have the DD Lite rail, and that extended lower rail is my least favorite feature. The "ovalized profile" is for the birds....all it does is make the grip area larger than needs be.

Please sell the GL/SSC and maybe the GL/SSC FSP and Mk18 FSP!

Anyone has a picture of the front-ends of DD M4 / Lite and RIS-II together?

My reference pix is that of an M4 vs Lite.  I still only have M4 rails, but considering continuous rail that Lite, RIS-II or Omega-X.

I'll see if I can get some pics up tomorrow showing the a cross section view of the M4/Lite Rail/RIS II Rail Systems.

Is there any way to get a profile view as well on that Mk 18 FSP rail?  Hmmm... and I was thinking about picking up a Mk 18 standard rail, now you've got me hoping for the FSP!

Thanks,

I think the Mk18 rail's "belly" is at least 1/4" higher up than the Lite rails.  I may be off in my guesstimate but it sure feels like it.
3/5/2010 4:26:47 PM EDT
[#36]
For some reason the side rails are wider though.

The smaller all these dimensions are, the better IMHO.
3/5/2010 4:42:09 PM EDT
[#37]
According to my measurements, the difference is 1/5 of an inch.

If DD could combine the height & mounting of the RIS II with the width of the M4/Omega, we'd have the ultimate rail.

+10000.

I'd buy one in a heart beat!

Does the RIS II need a special barrel nut wrench?
3/11/2010 8:49:02 PM EDT
[#40]
Same as the Lite.
3/12/2010 7:48:37 AM EDT
[#41]
Yup, take a three prong castle nut wrench and file the nubs down like 1mm each and it will work just as well.  $7 at Brownell's.

Yep...

Got a BCM BFH 16'' cut down and had a Triple Tap perm installed by ADCO to make it 16'' and had a M4A1 RIS II installed...

Should have pics of it once I get home.

Wait, maybe we are on a different page-  Which rail are you talking about?  The MK18 FSP?

I've used the RIS II Mk18 on a build and have a new one on the way, due Monday, and it'll be built then.
