Currently in the process of building a mid length upper with a wish list for a 16" barrell, 1/8 twist, stainless grade higher than a 416, LW preferred but not mandatory.  Looking to keep the price under $450.

I have limited it down to 2 barrels, and wanted to see if anyone has any feedback on the 2 models I have zeroed or any other recomendations.

1. Superior Barrels  Dexa  http://www.shop.superiorbarrels.com/product.sc?productId=39&categoryId=11

2. BCM 16 SS410 with the ionblack http://www.bravocompanyusa.com/BCM-16-Recce-SS410-Barrel-Mid-Length-Gas-IONBOND-p/bcm%20ss410%2016-8%20ib%20bk.htm

Thanks for your Help!

I like Denny's Operator barrel, but it's a 1/7 and I believe he's out of stock.

I'd have to say the BCM since it is the one in stock.

What type of shooting are you wanting to do with your barrel?  How many rounds?  fast firing schedule?  slow accurate fire?  All around barrel ?   Eats any kind of ammo barrel?

That would help us in helping you...:-)

Both are good barrels...I have the Dexa...but the BCM is in stock....

BTW...great first post....

Call Compass Lake Engineering. They can do you a profile you want with that twist rate in stainless. For under 400 they will send you a matched bolt also. It may take 2-3 weeks but it will be a tack driver.

I want to first thank everyone for the great feedback.  Rainier Arms barrels look stout.  I like what I see.  As far as compass lake I contacted them and they were very helpful.  The goal of the build was to produce a rifle that is solid and dependable that will deliver outstanding accuracy.  A workhorse that is fierce and accurate that will allow for a multiple of different bullet types and grains.  Many of my colleagues are active duty special forces, prior service and active swat team personnel.  With that group of shooting companions ammunition is always abundant, however varies in size and load, as well as the type of shooting(rapid fire, bench, tactical ect.) The desire for a barrel that will last the test of time that stands to wear and tear was desired and the main reason I was looking to a higher grade and precision tool.

Hence the superior barrels Dexa still rains as the barrel of choice.  However from talking with Matt at Superior restocking the barrel will not be likely until April to May.  Its hard to not fall in love with it after the stress they put it to in there demo videos.  A friend of mine has it on his self build and like the manufactures name it is superior in all classes and categories.  It just may be playing the waiting game.

Please, Im open to all suggestions and appreciate the input thus far!

If this is the type of barrel that you want...then...you want a good chrome lined barrel...

I have experience with these barrels...

1st...N4...it has a pinned gas block
2nd...Denny Operator...more accurate than the N4...slightly heavier than the N4/BCM barrel..might be able to survive a higher firing schedule...
2nd tie...the BCM CHF barrel...it weights and shoots like the N4 barrel...

I have 17+ K rounds through the N4...and only a 1000+ rounds through the Operator and the BCM.  All three are sub 2" MOA barrels.  Have fun and shoot often..:-)

Right now I would be leaning towards the BCM CHF barrel...YMMV.  Lighter weight, eats anything, and good accuracy...and in stock...
