Let me start off by saying I am by no means new to the world of shooting, but I am a newbie to the world of AR's.  I have been bitten by the itch, but don't know anybody to guide me in the righ direction.  I want my first AR to be of the heavy barreled varmint variety and then go from there with either new uppers or new guns.  I have been studying the boards here for quite some time and reading until the point of confusion.  I think I have narrowed my search down to the following:  Stag Arms Model 6 Super Varminterer, Rock River Arms Varmint A4, OR Spikes Tactical lower-RRA or Stag lpk-and either the Stag Model 6 or RRA Varmint A4 upper.  I'm comfortable with putting the lower together myself, but not the upper.  Would I be better off buying a complete AR so the two halves are 'fitted' together or should I go ahead and build the later?  I want this gun to be able to shoot really small groups and really long range (well long for me anyway - out to 500-600 yards).

Your preference, really...if you don't build your first one, you'll probably wish you had later when you find out how easy it is.

I'm curious what makes you think that receivers on complete rifles are "fitted" together? Someone in the factory picks up a lower from the bin & then picks up an upper from the bin & pushes the pins to mate them together. Nothing more than that & it's the same thing as if you're building your own.

If you want to impress us buy a Noveske FDE-SPR Limited Edition, otherwise a M1S upper and any complete lower will do what you want an AR to do!

Not trying to impress anybody, just trying to not buy parts that I'll wish I hadn't later on.
