Does anyone have any experience/opinions on this trigger for a new AR build?  I have a Timney in one of my bolt rifles and it is a great trigger.  I am wanting to put a good trigger on my new AR I am getting ready to build.  I ran across this Timney and wanted to see if anyone had tried one and if good/bad etc.

I have two 3lb timneys in 2 of my ar's and i love mine. Mine break like glass with zero creep or overtravel
others i have read on here have not had the same experience that i have but thats what you get with mass
manufactured parts. Mike

I put a Timney trigger in my recent build and it works great.  It breaks cleanly at 3 lb 2 oz.  I have put more than 1000 rounds through this rifle with zero problems.  Any future builds will probably have a Timney, as well.

That's good to hear, the one I have in my Remington Sendero is awesome..... but I had read some reviews on Timneys website that made me concerned, I know there are usually always a couple of bad reviews with anything.  My main concern is safety, I want a solid reliable trigger, but at the same time I want to have a clean, crisp break, even if it costs extra.  Are you guys using the competition version, skeletonized version??  Just curious

I had one in a work gun but the hammer quit resetting and after about an hour of heavy fire during a carbine course.  I took it out and put the mil-spec back in.  After inspecting it, the adjustment screw for the reset had worked loose under the heavy use, I guess.  Anyway, I got it adjusted and loctited the screw.  I'll put it back in a play gun but not a serious gun.  It's a fine trigger when it's working properly.

This thread discusses the same problem:

3lb Timney user here. I have not had any issues at all with light primer strikes, doubling, or reset.

Nice clean break and reset

I have the skeletonized version and it is great but not perfect. It breaks very clean and crisp. However, I have had it double on me a few times. Since it is on a range-only target AR I haven't worried about that too much. However, I would never put any aftermarket trigger on a self-defense or work gun, no matter who makes them. YMMV

I have a 3# non-adjustable skeletonized in one of my lowers that I use primarily for things like ammo testing, suppressor POI shift comparison, etc.

When I received the first unit from a well respected Industry Partner here on arfcom, it had about 1/8" of "slop" in take-up before release.  I sent it to Timney to check out, and they said that it was indeed machined improperly, and they sent me a replacement free of charge.

I started running the replacement [which did not suffer from the take-up woe], and had fairly consistent FTFire, i.e light primer strikes to the tune of 4-5 rounds per 100.  The ammo being used was all quality stuff such as BHRB, BHBB, and some XM193.  I spoke with Jay at Timney, and we decided to go with a "red" AR-10 hammer spring which they promptly sent to me free of charge.  Jay cautioned that the replacement hammer spring would increase the pull weight by 6-8 oz., and he was dead on the money.  Since the replacement spring has been installed, I have not experienced any FTFires.  While Timney's CS is quite good, it was disappointing that I had to make benefit of that fact on two separate occassions for the same device.

The Timney has a nice feel, but I would not recommend this FCG for a "social" weapon.

With that being said what would you recomend for a range, hog hunting gun setup if I didn't go with the timney??  I don't use my AR for duty just for playin mainly but I would like to build a good one.  I have never done much with my Colt AR that I have currently, I just used it as is.  I can shoot it just fine for what I do, but I would like to have a better trigger for this new gun.  Forgive me if my questions are very basic, I know what I like to use in my bolt guns, but this is new territory for me in this new AR build.  I appreciate everyones input, thanks

JP - more fiddly to install, but rock solid and as good as any match trigger.

I've been reading up on this Geissele two stage combat trigger, is you second pull heavier than the first?  I looked at  one trigger that was like 2.5 on first then 3 on second and then  I read about another that was like 5 pounds on the second pull.  Do you know about what your first/second pull is on the one you are suggesting??  Thanks

Let me correct myself, I see one style trigger on Larue website that is 5lb on second pull, I am assuming for tactical or combat applications, and the other version of the trigger is about .5 to 1.5 which is a DMR Small pin on the Larue website.  In my research I have found alot of good reviews on the Geissele products.

Let me add that the two i have are in my own wildcat rounds and are reloads only so i have never
used this trigger with any factory ammo so i have never had any light primer strikes.Mike
