I have decided to build a SPR type AR and have been looking for a fluted 18" barrel with an SPR profile with a 1/8 or 1/9 twist. I cannot afford a $400+ barrel at this time so I am looking for a cheaper alternative, the spr profile is not necissary but I do not want a HBAR profile, and I would like the flutes for wieght reduction mostly. Does anyone have any affordable alternatives for me? in the $200-$300 range.
Also, I would considering a 16" barrel since they seem easier to get a hold of. What kind of accuracy difference am I looking at? I will mostly be shooting 55gr federal and some 62gr if necessary(SHTF) and maybe some blue hills if I decide to spend the money on it. Say from ranges of 0-200 yards. Would an 18" barrel be at a big advantage at 200 yards compare to a 16"? Any help would be appreciated, and remember I'm trying to build this w/o depleting my bank account. Thanks Ian |

http://www.midwayusa.com/viewProduct/?productNumber=431749 see post here http://www.ar15.com/forums/topic.html?b=3&f=12&t=468988 Yeah I saw that post, I am really looking something with a non-heavy contour. Quoted:
Global Tactical 18 inch midweight SPR barrel. Looks like a nice barrel but the $450 price tag is too high for me. Anyone know any online stores that have an 18" 1/8 or 1/9 barrel in stock? Anyone care to inform me on the questions I posted in the original post? Thanks Ian |

You don't want to spend $400 on a barrel then don't. Go to ADCO and buy a SPR White Oaks 18" 1/7 barrel for $275. They have both mid and rifle gas legnth in stock. An even cheaper and maybe better option if you are mostly shooting 55gr is either a DPMS MK12 or the mini SASS barrel. Both of tese are 1/8 twist and under $200 but I have no idea where you may find one instock. I have never used any of these barrels but all three are well liked by people who really have them. NOTE-The DPMS MK12 is that in name only––its not a true "MK12" barrel |

I emailed DPMS asking if i could purchase the Mini SASS barrel as a barrel assembly, I guess I will have to wait and see. And thanks for the recommendations. I really wish I could afford to build a better SPR. Thanks Ian |

Anyone have any experience with the DPMS Mini SASS or the Mini SASS barrel? |

BCM SPR SS410 18" w/ Rifle Gas
This is the one I would go with on your budget. |
