I'm looking to get the 5.45x39 Upper offered by Palmetto State Armory.  What would be a good Lower to go with it?  I've seen many guys on here using the RRA in their AR builds.  This will just be a recreational gun.  Although I have thought about maybe getting the Upper with the 20 inch barrel for some longer range accuracy.  Anyway any advice much appreciated.

I have used RRA parts, and others.  I have found no appreciable difference in lowers.  They are kind of a least common denominator part.  That being said, others have claimed to have had trouble with lowers from one of the same companies I have used.  I live about an hour and a half from Rock River, Armalite, and Baer, and would use any of theirs, although I don't think LB sells lowers.  RRA is pretty widely available, but imho, more money than necessary.  I go back to the beginning.  I really don't see a difference in them.  You can have a horror story with any maker, but I don't know of any that weren't taken care of.  As far as accuracy goes, that's all in the upper.  With the lower...either the parts kit fits (and therefor works) or it doesn't.

Other lowers I've used: Superior, DPMS, CMMG.

Thanks man.  I have never "built" a gun before.  It doesn't look too difficult to do an AR Lower.  Would I be best off buying a stripped Lower and a parts kit and put it together myself or do you think I should just get an assembled Lower and be done with it?  I'm sure it would be cheaper to do it myself.  Thanks for the advice.

I don't know how much you'll save by installing the LPK yourself, but it sure won't cost you any more.  I recommend it because it teaches you how things work in there.  You'd be surprised how many experienced shooters who didn't build have no clue about the operation of their rifle.  The instructions, fully illustrated, in the DIY forum are excellent and quick.  The stock wrench is the only thing you have to buy that you probably don't already have, and you should have one anyway.  Actually I think you could get by without one, but it's far simpoler with.

Yeh I think I'm just gonna do it myself.  I think it would be fun and as you have said also a learning experence.  Thanks to both of you for the advice.
