I've never built an AR, but I'm thinking about it.  One of the local shops has Sabre lowers at $135.00 and tax. Any opinions on the quality or price on Sabre?

Good to go. It's a good forged lower, so it's just as good as any other quality lower on the market. Having a Sabre-toothed cat on your lower does add some coolness to it, I might add.

You don't get the cat on striped lowers, only complete guns.

True, but that would depend on if he's buying a true factory-stripped rifle, or some cannibalized new Sabre lowers - he didn't specify =)

No kitty cat on the side. The company selling them is buys direct from Sabre.

They are good lowers.  High shelf.  I had to grind down the bolt catch to fit in the slot.  If you use the RRA star selector, the rear stud/stop will get shiny due to the height of the selector.
