Does anyone know why some 20" barrels are marked FNMI, while others are marked 3S679?
Thanks for any answers.

FNMI should mean FN Mfg. Inc. while 3S679 is a the FN mfg code.
but I dont know why they use 2 different marking for the same meaning....on their mags they put both the FN name and the mfg code.

I suspect it has to do with the DLA contract as you find KAS rails with either and sometimes both.  They also could be replacement barrels for use at rebuild facilities and the contract called for that info.............but short of calling Columbia, SC and asking them I doubt we will know for sure.

Thanks for the info.  I had a hunch that they might be replacement barrels after digging around the net.

3S679 looks like a  CAGE  #
CAGE= civilian and government entity.
