Looking for thoughts on the cheapest way to get to a lightweight 14.7" perm A2 midlength(or 14.5" perm Phantom). Since CMMG canceled the lightweights |

Where was the rumor posted? I got it from a sales rep at CMMG. I called one day to ask about obtaining a second 1/12 twist 20" Lightweight barrel assembly. We had a short discussion about reason the lightweight profile was discontinued, the ongoing demand, etc. I was told that I should expect to see them offered again, however they would most likely be only 20" and 14.7", and only 1/7 twist. |

CMMG is the only company I know of that offered/offers 14.7" lightweights, or any lightweights at all really. You may check the following manufacturers though for products that are similar and could be reworked into what you want, but please note that these may not be "true" A1 lightweight. A1 lightweight is .625" Dia all the way, modern lightweights such as the RRA are .625 before and after the gasblock, and .750 at the gasblock to use A2 FSB's and handguard caps.
Bushmaster - "Superlight" barrels are 1/9, chromed, lightweight 16", true A1. http://www.bushmaster.com/products.asp?cat=7 Rock River Arms - Offers 16", and 16" 'Mid-length' 1/9 lightweight barrels, with or without chrome lining. Long wait times last I heard! http://www.rockriverarms.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=category.display&category_id=272 Del-Ton - 16" lightweight barrels available with or without chrome lining, 1/9 twist. http://www.del-ton.com/ (Call and ask about lightweights, they are not listed online but they do have them) M1S (Model 1 Sales) - Has 1/9, NON-chromed, lightweight 16" barrels in .223 chambering (Check retro forum) You may wish to contact ADCO, they have a representative here on the forums. ADCO can, IIRC, shorten a 16" barrel down to 14.7 or other lengths, and do the pin/welding work for a permanent FH for you. They can also turn down an HBAR or .625" diameter before and after the gasblock, or under the gasblock as well, and will fit an A1 .625" FSB can cap if you provide it.
