Looking to install new handgaurds, what are your favorites, not looking to hang a bunch of stuff on them.

For what gas system? Are you using FSP? What to you plan on attaching exactly?

I like YHM, I like the way they mount and how secure they are, and I also think they price is very fair and low for what your getting compared to other brands.

Looking to put them on a colt 6920, only thing I would put on would be a FPG and a light, off chance of a bipod

I like a plain old composite (fiberglass or carbon fiber, if you want light weight) tube.  It's easy to add rail sections exactly where you want them, if you want them.

I like the Superior Weapons Systems rails that come on Noveskes, but they don't sell those outside of getting a Noveske rifle. Aside from SWS, I like Troy rails.

If you just want a rail for tacticool reasons, YHM rails are a nice, cheap option. They are generally a little on the heavy side and I personally don't like how big around they are.

I personally use Larue rails on my rifles.

yhm smooth rail
it has a full length rail on top and three 3" rails on the sides and bottom. i like it bc it dosnt have full rails, witch i dont need.
i have one on my 16" rra entry tactical  and it looks and feels damn good, but i also have huge hands  so it fits me well

Daniel Defense Omegas.

Sturdy, thin profile, lightweight, no gunsmithing required to install or remove.

I like Larue because it is narrow and not oval.  If you aren't going to hang stuff on it, go with a VTAC or PRI.  I have all of those brands and they are all good.

I just received a Daniel Defence Omega rail , I am very impressed with the way it mounts, and how tight it locks up.

I like both versions of the Viking Tactics FF rail system because they allow me to place small pieces of rail where I want them.  I do not have a need for rails all over my fore end.
I have both versions and I really like the new VTAC Extreme Battle Rail better than the JP version because it's easier to remove to perform maintenance under the rail.

STR8SHTR,

How HOT does that new HG get?

It's so small and close to the barrel,  it seems like it would heat up too quick.

????

It looks and feels great.

DD Lite. I like the light weight, barrel nut, attachment design, ease of install & shape of the rail. IMO it's the best 1-piece rail currently on the market. DD is tops.

I have a LaRue on my Colt 6721 which I installed myself with proper tools, standard handguard installation wrench, upper receiver action block, and bench vise.

The LaRue was my favorite because it could be installed by any standard handguard wrench and doesn't need a special tool and it also have a keeper design that prevents the handguard from getting loose in extreme conditions.

The Daniel Defense RIS II series is another one that I like because it's not an egg shape (the bottom rail is closer to the barrel) compared to the other Daniel Defense rail models with egg shape (the bottom rail is further away from the barrel), I'm probably going to get it for my next build.

If you're thinking of installing it yourself the Daniel Defense Omega series are very easy to install with common hex wrench.

Troy and Samson (I also have Samson) are somewhat easy to install with hex wrench but the delta ring have to be cut and removed first before installation.

If you're on a budget, the YHM rails are pretty good (only real negative to them is that they're a pain in the ass to install).

If you can swing the cash, the DD omega's are FUCKING perfect, as far as rails go.  Super light weight, super strong, super easy to install.

My personal favorite for free-float railed handguards are LaRue's. I have an LT15-9 on my middy and love it. DD would be my 2nd choice. Why? I can't really say, other than I *read* somewhere that the bottom rail on some DD handguards were a little on the "shallow" side, and I didn't want any problems installing my VFG. I have no personal experience with them, but one of my friends has a DD M4 Rail 12.0 FSP (Carbine) on his 6920 and he loves it. I like the extra real estate up front by the FSB. Makes things less crowded.

Agreed.

Avoid MI Industries - not only do they have issues with the rails being out of spec, there are more than a few out there they either ignore of flatly refuse to replece (that would be me).

KAC URX, hands down favorite.  no giant barrel nut getting in the way, and it just looks like it belongs there.  mine has been dead nuts solid.

I am considering the YHM smooth rail for a lower budget SHTF carbine. But ease of installation is a big deal for me. I have never added a railed HG, and dont want issues installing. Can you please elaborate on the YHM installation. Are the smooth HG's difficult to install?

Hmm, I have had two and love them. The locking system is great, the screws will keep everything together with a little loctite and I have never had an out of spec rail.  I am converting to the Troy TRX Extremes though.

The YHM's have a pretty simple design. As long as your  comfortable changing a barrel, the YHM should be piece of cake. Be sure to use loctite when installing it, this will ensure it never gets loose.
